Drum Vent and Purge System (DVS) Filters For Headspace Ventilation
and Gas Characterization

	•	Nuclear Filter Technology's Drum Vent and Purge System (DVS) filters are installed by a DVS machine designed, engineered and manufactured by Nuclear Filter Technology.
	•	Three DVS machines are currently in use and one is available for mobile vendor service.

•	DVS filters are certified carbon-carbon NucFil® HEPA drum vent filters that meet WIPP WAC and TRUPACT-II SAR Appendix 1.3.5 requirements:
		•	H2 permeability exceeds 5 E-06 mol/s/mol fraction
		•	Greater than 99.97% removal of 0.45 micron DOP
		•	Greater than 200 ml/min air flow capacity at < 1.0" W.C.

•	The DVS filter design passes the DOT 7A drop test, stacking test, vibrations test, dart impact and water entry test.

	Drum Vent and Purge Filters
•	The NucFil®-049 LS penetrates an 85-gallon over pack, 55-gallon drum and a 90-mil liner.

•	The NucFil®-072 was used to vent over 30,000 drums at the Savannah River Site.

•	The NucFil®-DVS3 is designed to allow the maximum hydrogen diffusion through a 90-mil liner and drum lid.

•	The NucFil®-049 S is installed if a longer stem DVS filter is stopped by an impenetrable object.

	IN THE FIELD The figure to the left is a radiograph of a NucFil®-072 in a 55-gallon drum of TRU waste at the Nevada Test Site. Radiography verifies filter penetration of the 90-mil liner inside the 55-gallon drum.
